Now, however, an even tougher version of the diet has been invented, which, according to Women’s Health magazine, excites keto fanatics. Nutrition experts have commented on the new keto diet as even more unsustainable. The new version is called the fast keto diet. It does guarantee that you will lose pounds, but in the long run, according to experts, it is not a healthy diet.


The instant version of the keto diet is a combination of a ketogenic diet and fasting. The intention is to eat as in a ketogenic diet: 60-70% fat, 15-30% protein, and 5-10% carbohydrates. However, the diet fasts and meals should only be eaten once a day. This is how the body goes into ketosis and starts burning fat instead of carbohydrate reserves.

According to Women's Health, the fast keto diet was developed by Dr. Harlan Kilstein, who presents himself as a professional coach and motivator. According to Kilstein, the diet is intended to simplify the weight loss process and help people avoid the weight loss slowdown that can occur after a few weeks of following a traditional keto diet.

An extreme diet that "guarantees to lose weight"

However, nutrition experts do not recommend such an extreme diet.- I believe that the keto and the fast keto diet is guaranteed to lose weight. Whenever eating is restricted and a calorie deficit occurs, the weight drops. When the time window for eating is limited, fewer calories are more likely to be eaten, says registered nutritionist Hillary Cecere.

Cecere recalls that a diet that is completely unsustainable over a longer period of time.- When it is no longer followed, the weight starts to increase. I think it also restricts eating nutritious foods. This diet is not good for health in the long run - it’s just for quick weight loss.

Cecere recalls that permanent weight loss requires a lifestyle change and a sustainable diet. No one needs to get ketosis in their body to lose weight. According to a nutritionist, weight loss is a calorie deficit, and there are many other healthy and sustainable ways to lose weight. Experts say diets like fast keto diets can also cause the body to start burning muscle instead of fat in an energy deficit.

“Combining a super-restrictive diet and fasting is not a good thing,” registered nutritionist  Scott Keatley sums up.
